Roadway description: No bicycle markings
Your story: Biking to work, approached a red light at Belmont/Milwaukee. There was a long line of right turning cars, so I proceeded through the middle lane to get to the crosswalk.
When the light turned green, I had reached the opposite side of the intersection when I heard a quickly-accelerating-vehicle behind me. I veered to the right as close to the parked vehicles as I could and still had a pickup driver pass me on the left with maybe a few inches to spare between his mirror and my handlebar.
It was clear he had done this to intimidate me, as he was on the far right side of the lane.
Of course he accelerated into traffic a half block later. I debated confrontation when I reached him, but decided passing him again, and for good, while he remained stuck in traffic was enough.
Suggested improvements: Add any bike infrastructure to this stretch of Milwaukee. Define the lanes prior to major intersections on Milwaukee to reduce driver speeds and reckless driving. Require drivers renewal tests for licenses include an ability to demonstrate safe driving, not just an ability to breathe and/or stand in line [emphasis added].
