So you submitted your close call, now what do you do?
The first thing I would suggest is that you make sure you take care of any injuries. If you feel that your close call was the result of negligence by any party (like failure to maintain a certain part of the street or roadway), contact a lawyer.
The purpose of Close Calls is to identify problem areas and the specific problems that make it a problem area. We ask for your “suggested improvements” to start a discussion on possible mitigation techniques. A place may need refreshed pavement markings, or a wider bike lane. It’s rarely ever going to be yours or the community’s call.
Send a printout of your Close Call on this website to your alderman, village trustee, or city council member as well as the staffer in charge of that municipality’s streets.
CTA, Pace, cabbies, delivery, and other professional drivers
If your Close Call involves a professional driver, like someone who drives a CTA bus, Pace paratransit car or van, a delivery van (USPS, UPS, FedEx, etc.), or a taxi, please print out your Close Call and mail it to that organization.
